The reconstruction of geoform 187 was recently completed.
It’s been a fair while since we last saw a new entry in First 4 Figures Metroid line but the wait was definitely worthwhile. Meta Ridley is ready to strike!
Back in 2016 (10th of May to be precise), F4F launched the Varia Suit (1/4th scale) statue for pre-order which is finally shipping. That was the last Metroid statue available for pre-order until now. And man, does he look amazing.
The reconstruction of geoform 187, code-named Ridley, was recently completed. After his defeat on Zebes, Command ordered a number of metagenetic improvements for him. Though aggressive, we were able to implement these changes in a cycle. The metamorphosis was painful, but quite successful in the end. Early tests indicate a drastic increase in strength, mobility, and offensive capability. Cybernetic modules and armor plating have been added as well. We believe our creation, now called Meta Ridley, will become the mainstay of our security force, a job he will certainly relish.Space Pirate Data “Meta Ridley” (Metroid Prime)
I love the dynamic pose they went for, which coincidentally is the same as the Metroid Prime Meta Ridley Trophy. And while I wasn’t too keen on the crotch support at first, I really don’t find it as much as an eye-sore I would have thought I would. It actually blends very well with the base and is bland enough to not take your eye away from the amazing figure itself. I never thought I would go for the Meta variant of Ridley but I absolutely adore the colour scheme and he looks a lot more beautiful then I expected he would.
While he’s the first in a new line, the Metroid Villains line, he’s actually designed to go very well with the original Samus suits they released years ago. While we’ve only reviewed the Zero Suit they did, we actually do have the other three suits they made; Varia, Phazon and Gravity. They actually made Ridley in the same scale as these three suits. And I’m glad they did as even in this 1/6th scale, he already towers at a mighty 37 inches (94cm)!
Can you imagine the size he would be to match the newer Light and Varia suits?
Like usual with F4F, their Meta Ridley comes in two versions: a regular and an exclusive. The regular will be available at your local retailer but the exclusive is only available at the official First 4 Figures website.
So, what’s included in both versions? Of course, the base with the Meta Ridley figure is included in both. And they also both have glow in the dark wings and an authentication card. But the exclusive also includes LEDs in both the eyes and in the orbs on his chest plate. Also, if you buy (and validate) the exclusive version before or on this Friday (25th January 2019), you get some nice extras:
- An additional Signature Card signed by Alex Davis.
- A Signature edition Hologram Sticker.
- Plus extra F4F Reward Points.
As with their other orders, there is no known edition size beforehand. Pre-orders stay open for the exclusive until either 1.000 pieces are sold or until production starts. Talking about production. The estimated release date for this monster is Q1 2020 so we’ll have to wait another year to actually own him.
And maybe one of the most important things I almost forgot to mention; the costs. I was sure that this beast of a statue would be around the 800 USD mark, and that was taking into account that F4F is always surprising us with their reasonable pricing. But they decided to take a risk to rally the Metroid fans and make more sales by pricing it even lower!
Both version are only 599.99 USD!
Yes, you’re reading it correctly. For a statue of this size and quality, this pricing is absolutely insane. I’m still not believing it. But believe me, we put our order in!
