[UPDATED] Steam in a box?

I’ve got mixed feelings about services like Steam and the likes.

I mean, I love it that Indie developers get a chance to release their products and all but I just really don’t like digital products. I love to be able to hold the boxes and stuff like that. But, it’s inevitable that it will continue to grow as a market…
Now, we got something even weirder down at the 2013 International CES trade show in Las Vegas. Check it out.

Update: right after posting, I got an update for you! Check it.

Xi3 Corporation, who?, announced that they are working on something called the Piston which is a system developed for computer gameplay housed in a grapefruit-sized Xi3 Modular Computer chassis. It is designed specifically to support both Steam and its Big Picture mode for residential and LAN party computer gaming on larger high-def screens.

So, what does that mean for us all?

Piston

I have no clue…
But it looks nice although I wonder just how it will all work. But that’s why it’s an reveal. More answers will definitely come later even though it might take a while if Valve is involved…

Pipe dream or reality? What do you think? Personally, I think we’ll have to wait and see what happens…

And apparently, the Piston is not the Steam box. What, what?! Just look at the video below. Which is kind of broken but you get the drift.
