What’s past is prologue.
I really love Nintendo merchandise. Especially from characters that I’ve liked for years. One of those characters already has a semi-nice statue but this PVC really blows that one out of the water! And all others like it as well!
So far, there has been only one PVC kind of figure in existence; the Samus Zero Suit from Metroid Zero Mission (Gameboy Advance) made by Yujin. Not only is she small (just a trading figure) but she’s also hard to find and bloody expensive! Luckily, Max Factory is here with a solution for those craving after more Samus goodness!
Indeed, she’s not only relatively cheap, she’s also incredibly nice. And that’s actually not that surprising since she’s sculpted by the same guy who sculpted the amazing Catherine; Shining Wizard. Oh, and I’m not kidding about that name… But whatever his name, he can really sculpt!
Even though it’s quite a static pose, you can actually achieve different looking expressions/moods just by altering the way you display her. Also the waving of her hair adds just that little bit extra that elevates the overall feel of this figure. It maybe look a bit static in the start, but looking at the total figure it’s so much more. I especially love the coloring on her. Not just the color palette but also the fact that all the lines are neatly done and paint misses are non-existent makes this a wonderful figure for me personally. Also the application of the red/pink-isch symbols have been done very nicely. Overall, there isn’t a thing I don’t like about this figure.
Oh, and I even didn’t mention something really cool about this figure… You know that people often confuse Zelda with Link or vice versa? And for those that still do, I’ll help. Zelda is the name used in the titles of the videogames etc but the hero’s name is Link… Yes, Link is the guy (hero, the player, whatever) and Zelda is the girl (the princess). The same often happens with Metroid. Not that people often confuse Samus her name but most don’t know Samus is actually a girl. Always have been… That was one of the most shocking after-endings in any old game (if you completed it under 5 hours)… But that’s not what I wanted to clarify. What most people don’t know is what a Metroid actually is. It’s quite easy. Here’s a (slightly altered) quote from our friend Wiki:
Metroids are artificial organisms, discovered on the planet SR388 years after they were created by the Chozo to prevent the spread of the more dangerous X Parasites, and they were promptly used as a bioweapon by the Space Pirates. Metroids feed on the “life energy” of their prey in a manner similar to the way a leech drains a host organism’s blood. Unlike leeches, Metroids leave all of their prey’s blood and internal organs intact yet lacking the energy necessary to sustain life. It is unknown exactly how the Metroid extracts this “life energy” or what, in fact, said life energy consists of.
Interestingly, the word “Metroid” in the Chozo language roughly translates to “Ultimate Warrior”.
The Metroid they included here actually isn’t a full grown specimen but a baby one. Isn’t he cute? Even though he’s quite small, he’s quite detailed as well. I just love him. And they’re all the perfect size for my Zoomoth 1/1 scale Baby Metroid… She looks like a mommy.
The baby Metroid is attached to the base with a pole. And that one is a pain in the ass to get in! Really had to force its way into the back of the Metroid. Don’t like doing that…
The base is quite simple but it actually suits her very well. It isn’t distracting or anything but just a plain transparent disc with the series name on it, being Metroid: Other M. Some may find it too simple for a base but it’s perfect for me.
The box is just a simple window box packaging with some images scattered across it. It’s a nice box but simple. You can also see here that it’s definitely an official licensed product since the Nintendo seal logo is also on the front of the box.
I don’t know if she’s actually released outside Japan as well (we’ve used AmiAmi to get her) but currently some webshops have her here as well. At least, they’ll have the re-release here as well…
I really love this figure! She’s probably one of my favorites this year. A definite buy if you love the character or just generally nice looking women in tight suits.
I wanted to say that you’d better get her while she’s still available but apparently, there will be a re-release… So, just get her!
Item reviewed: Metroid: Other M – Samus Zero Suit
Manufacturer: Max Factory
Rarity: Still for sale on most webshops also a second release is apparently coming.
On the back of the box does it say this figure is made in China or made in Japan? Also could you tell me what year is on the box?
The back of the box says ‘Made in China’ (as you can see on one of the pictures). It does also say ‘For sale in Japan only’.
The year on the box is 2010.
Hope it helps.
