Mastodon! Pterodactyl! Triceratops! Saber-Toothed Tiger! Tyrannosaurus!
There was a time I was running around the house and the playground screaming those dinosaur species. Not that I was such a huge fan of those enormous beasts, no no. It was mostly because I was a huge Power Ranger fan. I still have a big hunk of nostalgia sitting inside of me, loving the series. Especially the first three seasons are special to me. At that time, I bought all the toys I could get, or ask them for my birthday. And now, a good 15 years later I again bought a Power Ranger toy. Boy’s never really grow old I think.
The toy I bought is ‘The Super Robot Chogokin Daizyujin’ (to whom I refer in this review by the name I’m used to: Megazord) whom I announced in this post. I was pretty psyched when Tamashii/Bandai announced him and now several months later, he is looking at my screen when I’m writing this. I’m still so happy I decided to get him and that my girl let me…
This Megazord is not big, tiny almost. He is about the size of a standard figma, so around 15cm but for his height he is pretty heavy. The main reason for this is the fact that his torso and legs are completely die-cast. And dammit, I love that. It just feels like quality stuff. The smaller stuff and the details are made of a high quality molded plastic. The paint application is spot on! I didn’t find any misses and the colors are just perfect. Megazord is very detailed and everything looks as if he just stepped out of the television.
Another big plus is the articulation of the zord, there is even a plan added to show you how to articulate him. I know it is not really rocket science but for his feet it does comes in handy. You can ‘pop’ the feet of the leg what expands the joint a bit so the feet is a lot more flexible. Which of course gives you the possibility of some awesome poses. It is a pretty simple feature but it does add a lot to the figure. It is not so easy to make a robot so poseable without disturbing the look and feel of it, but they did a great job. Of course you can tilt and rotate the head, arms, legs, hands, … You can even adjust the rockets on his back and make him look even more badass.
Megazord comes with 3 sets of hands; one set of fists, one set of open hands and one set of hands to hold stuff with. The stuff to hold is not surprisingly his shield and sword. The shield, the Mastodon’s head, wasn’t used often in the series but for me, it is essential to complete his looks. The Dino Megazord’s Power Sword can be hold in the second hand. When the Power Rangers call out the sword and it plunged from the heavens in the ground, you know stuff just got serious. One slash with the sword energized, sending an energy bolt through the monster of the day and it was finished. The day was saved once again.
The sword comes with a cover you can slip over so you can re-enact the energized all killing slash. The last item added was a energy beam that can be attached to his head.
I really hope in that in the future other famous western zords will be released. Would be awesome to have also a Dragonzord, Thunderzord and Ninjazord. Yeah I’m only a fan of the first three seasons, sue me. If one of those will be announced I will pre-order it with no hesitation at all. The quality of this one is too good to not buy the next ones. So if you want to call yourself a Power Ranger fan, order this one, you will not regret it !!!
